Privacy policy

Effective 30 September 2026. This policy covers the CommentDownload website and its browser extension.

What happens when you generate a file

You provide a YouTube video link. The extension uses the selected video ID to request its comments, replies, and video details from YouTube in your browser. CommentDownload uses that material to generate an HTML file. YouTube receives the requests needed to serve this content. A guest's generated file remains in the webpage until that page is closed or the file is downloaded; it is not saved to a CommentDownload account.

Accounts and saved history

Creating an account provides your email address and password to our account provider, Supabase. Supabase manages authentication and the account session. While signed in, completed HTML files and associated video details, including the video ID, title, comment count, and filename, are uploaded to private account history in Supabase. You can open, download, and delete saved files from your account.

Premium HTML is in beta. For a premium generation, the extension uses your account session to verify eligibility and saves the completed file to private history before a credit balance is charged. Supabase stores the credit balance, adjustment records, and generation receipts. Payments and balance top-ups are not available. A receipt or credit record can remain after its saved HTML file is deleted so the balance can be accounted for correctly.

Account options, including thumbnail display, the default HTML theme, the website layout, and whether to preselect Premium, are stored with your account. Thumbnail previews are off by default. If you turn them on, the history list requests preview images directly from YouTube; YouTube may receive technical connection data such as your IP address. Thumbnails are displayed only in history, not added to generated HTML files.

Local settings and service providers

Your account session, language choice, and theme choice are kept in your browser. A pending video link can be kept in the current tab while you install the extension. Cloudflare delivers the website; Supabase provides accounts and private file storage; and YouTube serves the video and comment data. These providers may process technical connection data, such as IP addresses, to deliver and secure their services.

How the data is used

We use this data to provide the requested comment export, account history, premium credit accounting, and service security. We do not sell user data or use it for personalized advertising. We do not allow people to read saved reports as part of normal operation. Access for user-requested support, security investigation, or legal requirements is limited to what is needed for that purpose. Our use and transfer of information received through the extension are limited to these purposes, in line with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy.

Retention, access, and deletion

Guest reports are not stored in account history. Saved history remains until you delete it; there is no automatic history expiration at present. Premium receipts and credit records may remain after file deletion to preserve accounting integrity. Provider security and connection logs follow the providers' own retention practices. You can delete individual saved files in your account. For help with account information or an account deletion request, email commentdownloadteam@gmail.com.

Security and changes

CommentDownload uses HTTPS for service connections and restricts saved history to the account that owns it. We may update this policy when the service changes; the effective date above will change when we do.
